My First Temescal Ridge Run Toward the Ocean

Temescal Peak 2,126 Feet

This run is the first time I ventured out along the mountains toward the ocean. Since I didn't know the route and the mountains were unfamiliar to me, I thought I'd only go part way to the ocean and turn around. Somewhere around 2.5 miles past the Hub Junction where the trail road began to descend down towards the ocean, I began to feel that would be a good place to turn around and return. I believe I was a short distance before Cathedral Rocks. I wasn't keen on the idea of having to return ascending up a mountain at that point. My feet hurt because of the road shoes that I wore. I have some thicker cushioned Nike's that work better on stones and segmented rock. I loved it. All the people that I met were of the higher caliber kind one finds at marathons and ultra marathons. Here are some photos and information about my 19-mile solo run.

Looking out towards the city of angles that this strange and wonderful earth gave birth to.

I liked the long views that I saw like the photo above that shows Los Angeles in the distance and the way the sky sort of reminds you that you are living on a planet filled with earth producing foliage and human civilization. The only thing I could hear, for the most part, were the many bees humming in the wildflowers.

My Turn Around Point

My second attempt to go from my porch to the ocean succeeded. It was grueling going down into Temescal Canyon Park from the "Radio Tower." I'll turn around in the area of Skull Rock in future runs to avoid wasting climbing time and keep it to running. For a flyover see https://www.relive.cc/view/u2959443616
My pace to the ocean which includes getting lost once and not knowing where I was going was 13:29 minutes per mile.
